Monmouthshire Building Society meet the entrepreneurs of tomorrow

Monmouthshire Building Society has teamed up with 2B Enterprising Partnership to bring lessons in entrepreneurship to pupils across Newport.

More than 1400 young people across Five Schools in Wales are set to learn invaluable entrepreneurial skills thanks to leading 2B Enterprising partnership with Monmouthshire Building Society.

Leaders of tomorrow from St Joseph's RC Primary Newport are one of five schools set to receive invaluable lessons in business, enterprise, and resilience thanks to an innovative partnership between 2B Enterprising and Monmouthshire Building Society.

Pupils at the school are set to receive first-hand lessons and practical tasks as part of The Bumbles of Honeywood programme, which aims to bring educational enterprise to life through unique business partnerships.

The Bumbles of Honeywood programme pairs businesses with local schools to enable pupils to gain access to its bespoke educational resources. The books, lesson plans, and downloadable resources, which are funded by each partner business, aim to inspire children’s entrepreneurial skills and encourage them to learn about enterprise in the classroom in an engaging and fun way.

In turn businesses then get the opportunity to develop a relationship with their partner schools, which improves community engagement and strengthens future employment and enterprise skills.

Monmouthshire Building Society is the latest business to sign up to the educational partnership, joining industry leading companies including Sony, ETeach, Swansea.com and National Grid.

Jayne Brewer, Chief Executive of 2B Enterprising said: “We are thrilled to welcome Monmouthshire Building Society to our 2B Enterprising family.  They have chosen to support five schools across Wales, and we are delighted that children are not only getting to learn key enterprise skills through our programme, but they are also learning about career opportunities at Monmouthshire Building Society. Studies show that our relationship with money is formed from the age of seven and financial literacy has always been part of the core skills on our programme. Giving young people the opportunity to hear from financial institutions about money and the role it plays in our lives and also the job opportunities in the financial sector, supports the well-being goals for Wales, for a prosperous, resilient, more equal Wales.

The Bumbles of Honeywood programme is such a fantastic way to teach young people about the benefits of enterprise and entrepreneurial education, and thanks to the support of businesses like Monmouthshire Building Society, over four hundred  schools are now partnered with businesses across England and Wales, with pupils and businesses alike seeing the benefits of this unique programme.

We are now calling on even more businesses to get involved and support schools in their local area to help us to inspire our future business leaders.”

Dawn Gunter, Chief Operating Officer at Monmouthshire Building Society, said: “Working with a younger people allows us to make a greater impact by reaching students at a formative stage in their development. Early exposure to enterprise skills helps nurture creativity, problem solving, and resilience from a young age, laying a strong foundation for future success.

“We are particularly committed to supporting schools in areas where resources and opportunities may be limited. By providing additional support and engagement in these communities, we can help bridge the gap and ensure all children have the chance to thrive. This focus aligns with our commitment to social equity and making a positive impact in our communities where it is needed most, and our core purpose of helping our members, colleagues and communities to thrive.”

In the last year, 2B Enterprising has engaged with more than 100 corporate partners in sectors as diverse as construction, hospitality, finance, technology, retail and tourism.
