The Society’s Community Academy initiative has been recognised under the category of Recruitment Initiative of the Year at the prestigious awards, which will take place in April.
This is the second nomination for the Community Academy this year, having also been shortlists in the HR Wales awards.
The ground-breaking Community Academy initiative is aimed at creating real career opportunities in financial services. The Academy offer six paid entry-level placements for 12 months, providing colleagues with the skills and knowledge to kickstart their careers.
Beverley Flood, Head of People at Monmouthshire Building Society, said: “Our Community Academy is more than a recruitment initiative, it’s about creating real opportunities, nurturing potential and empowering people to build a brighter future.
“Being nominated for two prestigious awards is a reflection of the hard work, dedication and passion behind the initiative.”
The Community Academy was launched as a pilot programme last year. It opened opportunities in the financial sector to anyone over the age of 16. The Society removed the requirement to have a minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent to apply, opening opportunities to people who might not have thought about working in financial services.
Seventeen year old Alesha Amin started her career last September through the Community Academy initiative. She said: “When I heard about the academy it seemed like a great opportunity to learn on the job, gain a qualification and earn some money. I liked what the Society had to say about supporting members, meeting new people and the opportunities to grow your career with an organisation that cares about people.”
The British HR awards celebrate organisations and initiative that are shaping world-class people experiences. With over 350 entries from across the UK, competition was fierce, making the recognition even more special.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Covent Garden, London on 2nd April.
