Our new Brecon Branch receives a warm welcome from members

The Society has had a presence in the old market town of Brecon since 2011, firstly with an agency and then taking over the old Leeds Building Society premises in September 2020.

However, the former Leeds building didn’t quite meet the needs of members or colleagues and last month the team moved into a new premises across the road to provide greater accessibility and more space for everyone.

The building at 6b The Bulwark was given a makeover with the new branch able to reflect the vibrancy of the Society’s brand and values as a modern mutual. Members and the community were invited to an open day to mark the official opening of the Society’s new home on Monday 27th September 2021.

Brecon resident and member Mr Jones was asked to cut the ribbon and declare the branch open saying, ‘I am very honoured and proud to be opening the new branch.’

Members and colleagues were joined by the Society’s Chief Executive Will Carroll and Chief Operating Officer Dawn Gunter who were both incredibly proud of the team at Brecon and the service they are providing their communities.

Society Chief Executive Will Carroll said, ‘It’s great to see so many members engaged with our colleagues and the Society. It was overwhelmingly clear that there is a definite need for high street financial services and that people still want to visit their local branch. In towns like Brecon, the branch is fully integrated in the community and popping into the Society forms part of everyday life for local people. It is important to the Society that we are able to maintain these services.'

The feedback from members who attended the open day was overwhelmingly positive, with Zoe Porter from Brecon and District Mind saying it was ‘lovely to see a building in the town being used’ and another member commenting  ‘It’s good to see a Welsh business doing well and investing in the local community.’

Society Chief Operating Officer, Dawn Gunter said, ‘When the Society moved into the old Leeds building it was important for us to support and retain the team led by Zoe and Mathew. Their leadership and knowledge has been instrumental in the Society establishing itself and building relationships with the local community and members. We are delighted they stayed with us and look forward to supporting their ongoing success with the Society.’

Brecon Branch Manager, Zoe Mathias said, ‘The Society have been brilliant and are like our extended family. We have been well supported during what could have been a very uncertain time for us when the Leeds withdrew from Brecon and now were are in our new home we are looking forward to continuing to provide our members with the service and care they deserve.’

All members who visited Brecon branch during September were entered into a free raffle to win a Best of Brecon Hamper. The draw took place at the open day event and the lucky winner was Mr Richard Wheeler. Congratulations!
